On November 1st, according to the Hong Kong Economic Times quoted New York Daily News, New York City is preparing to rename its river Newport Creek in Long Island City to Amazon River to attract the attention of Amazon. Its second headquarters is built in New York City.
According to the “Electronic Business Daily”, Amazon has been site-selecting for its second headquarters location for more than a year. The current list includes 20 cities including Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Atlanta, Austin and Washington. The results will be announced at the end of the year.
Amazon has publicly stated that it plans to invest more than $5 billion in its second headquarters over the next 20 years and employ more than 50,000 people. The establishment of the new headquarters not only attracts highly skilled and high-income workers, but also boosts the local surrounding prices to drive the economy, so all states are looking forward to this. To this end, many cities have tried their best to attract Amazon’s final “settlement”, trying to leverage the influence of Amazon to bring advantages to the development of the region.
